The Community Fisheries Control Agency (CFCA) was established in 2005 with the objective of providing a tool to reinforce the observance of the measures set in 2002 by the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. Its aim is to unify and improve the observance of these measures through the share of the national and Community fisheries control and inspection resources and through the coordination of the corresponding activities. The Agency will organize the intervention of the national control and inspection resources according to the European strategy.
The European Maritime Safety Agency was established in May 2003 and has been considerably developed since then, creating an organization able of carrying out the tasks entrusted to it within the Community regulations, and which will keep strengthening towards 2010. The year 2006 was especially important, as the official seat of the Agency was definitively moved from Brussels to Lisbon (Portugal). The main tasks of the Agency are expected to be widened and consolidated in 2010. All the activities regarding the appropriate implementation of the Community’s safety regulations will be the priority.
The World Fishing Exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Centre of Cotogrande from 16th to 19th September. The first Aqua Farming International will be held in parallel to the Exhibition. Among the events to be hosted alongside the World Fishing Exhibition, we should highlight the World Summit on Fisheries Sustainability, which will take place on the 15th September at the Parador de Baiona, and the Fifth Fisheries Ministers Conference, on the morning of the 16th September. These events will rely on the participation of more than 40 Fisheries Ministers, who will discuss, together with scientists and the fisheries industry, the management strategies to achieve sustainable fishing activity.
