The celebration of the sixth World Fishing Exhibition (WFE), the greatest worldwide commercial fisheries exhibition, that will take place next September in Vigo is a great piece of news for different reasons: it will involve the visit of businessmen coming from eighty different countries to the province of Pontevedra, with the subsequent promotion of internationalization; it will create new business opportunities through the establishment of new business relations that will strengthen our companies in the international market; and it will consolidate the city as a worldwide referent in the field of the fisheries industry.
Once again, this event will bring together the Fisheries ministers of many countries and, during a couple of days, they will discuss and define the most relevant issues regarding the industry in the world. This demonstrates the high level of internationalization offered by the fisheries industry of Vigo, which has interests in more than twenty five countries and generates a turnover abroad of more than one billion Euros.
On the other hand, apart from facilitating trade transactions between Spanish and international fishing companies, the World Fishing Exhibition will individually contribute to a magnificent promotion of tourism in Vigo and Galiciam, showing the quality of our region, the beauty of our coastlines or our varied gastronomy.
Likewise, this event will also involve a great growth in the activity of the tertiary sector in the province of Pontevedra, especially for those industries related to service and commerce, with unquestionable positive financial consequences for this city and for the rest of Galicia. The commercial industry is, precisely, one of the financial sectors where more innovative initiatives have to be implemented in order to increase the competitiveness and profitability of these companies.
The World Fishing Exhibition 2009 will be held under a serious international financial crisis that entails uncertainty in the fisheries industry; therefore we have to look for new alternatives to guarantee sustainability and the continuity of this activity, which will surely continue to be a source of wealth and generation of employment.
Congratulations to the Executive Committee of the World Fishing Exhibition, as they take on the responsibility of demonstrating the world the quality and the innovation processes of the Galician fisheries sector, industry, shipyards and great ports. Once again, business leadership will be proved at every objective and event, always relying on the collaboration of the political class, labour unions and even the civil society.
