On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Vigo and myself, I would like to hearty welcome this sixth World Fishing Exhibition, a meeting point and forum of debate for the international fisheries industry.
In such uncertain international economic times, it is crucial that we as business people do our best to promote export with the aim of being more competitive. Currently, our balance of trade is not reaching desirable figures; this fact, combined with the growing demand of markets and the complexities of exporting, creates the need of carrying out measures to help the internationalization of our companies. In this sense, at the Chamber of Commerce, there is a clear bet for the promotion of actions with foreign countries and that is why we have devoted 44% of our budget to this department.
On the other hand, it is important to highlight another added value for our companies: innovation. Innovating is important under any circumstance, but it is an indispensable task when the market shows difficulties. The essence of innovation consists on finding new ways of satisfying the demand of customers by implementing new and more efficient methods. For this reason, the World Fishing Exhibition will be a great opportunity for professionals to see and share the latest technological advances in the industry.
We know that this exhibition will place Vigo once again in the international spotlight, and I would like to thank the organization of the Chamber I represent, as they have made possible this wonderful event, as well as the administrations and institutions that have collaborated in order to make it real.
Finally, on behalf of our corporation, I would like to wish exhibitors and visitors every success with regard to the commercial and professional relations that may be established thanks to the celebration of the World Fishing Exhibition 2009.
