This afternoon, the World Fishing Exhibition has hosted Galicia’s Day, an event that, within the scope of this World Exhibition, has been really useful to highlight the Galicia’s historical contribution to the fisheries world. The event was chaired by the President of the Xunta de Galicia (Galician Regional Government), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who expressed the ‘joint commitment’ of the Galician Government with the people of the sea and ‘with each and every Galician company related to it’.
The president of the Xunta de Galicia put special emphasis on the importance of the World Fishing Exhibition for Galicia, since it places is at ‘the centre of all the oceans world’, and stressing the high attendance of Galician companies in this sixth Exhibition; 74 firms, to be precise. In addition, he transmitted the support of the Galician Government to the aquaculture sector, an industry which, in the future, will help giving a new boost to Galician economy. The first Aqua Farming International will also be held coinciding with the World Fishing Exhibition.
Also attending the event was the Galician Regional Minister of the Sea, Rosa Quintana, the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero and the President of the Executive Committee of the WFE, Alfonso Paz-Andrade. Galicia’s Fishing chief thanked the WFE, and especially its Executive Committee for the opportunity “to learn about fishing experiences from other regions in the world and for transmitting Galicia’s expertise to the rest of the world”.
After two days of the World Fishing Exhibtion 2009, the President of the Executive Committee, Alfonso Paz-Andrade confirmed his satisfaction with the level of participation in the event. “Today we’ve reached the zenith of the exhibition, especially after yesterday’s opening ceremony. Vigo has demonstrated its magnetism in the fishing world and from what I can gather; people are generally satisfied with their results. I hope that this show will be beneficial to all the Galician exhibitors who are here in their numbers showing that they can rise to an occasion such as this.” Galicia day took place in the Plaza de Galicia where the Welsh Guards Band has paraded in front of the President of the Xunta de Galicia playing both the Galician National Anthem and the well-known ‘Para Vigo me voy’.
