The Galician company Kafloat, has carried out extensive research for a development that it is totally unique that will prevent, or at least delay the sinking of a ship, and will launch this latest technological system today at the World Fishing Exhibition. At 4.30pm at the Xunta de Galicia booth, the company president Vicente Lopez-Perea, will explain how the system works, and how it makes vessels in the industry more seaworthy. Thanks to this modern and reliable technology, the high number of accidents at sea which were constantly being reported in the press and on the television and radios are expected to drop significantly. The lecture will be repeated on Saturday 19th September at 10.00am.
The system has been approved by the Ministry of Development and is now ready to be introduced into the marketplace. Currently, there is now a Xunta de Galicia coastguard ship, the Serra do Caurel, which has recently become the safest ship in the world now that it has been equipped with this new system for marine safety. The ship will be moored in the port of Vigo during the World Fishing Exhibition, at dock A Laxe (near the city centre), so that the installation of the system may be observed and visited by those interested.
Besides offering all of the technical details about the advantages that come with protecting a ship with the Kafloat system, the company will also report the aid already approved by the EU through the European Fisheries Fund, 60% of whose grants go towards the modernization of vessels and the installation of security systems. These grants allow owners to install the Kafloat system through this funding channel.
Currently, the Galician company is engaged in constant meetings with the Galician Department of Industry and the Sea, to channel these financial funds further without returning them to the shipowner, and discussing hopes of expanding public financial measures through additional aid that could be authorized at a later date for the successful implementation of Kafloat.
Security business such as Mutuamar and Murimar will compensate the shipowners that have installed the Kafloat system with a bonus of up to 25% of the premium, which makes it more economically beneficial to protect the ships with this system.
Kafloat is a unique system capable of delaying and in many cases, totally avoiding, ships sinking and in case of emergency, facilitates the recovery of the crew by the rescue services. The technology’s performance has been subjected to hard and reliable tests in simulated adverse conditions and has been certified by the classification society, Bureau Veritas. If a ship, not fitted with Kafloat registers a leak or any process that may cause the interior to flood, the crew would not be obliged to leave the ship immediately in life rafts, they would be safe on the inside if they trying to pump and they might not sink.
